W Korea Breast Cancer Charity - What Happened?

I know I'm a bit late, but I wanted to sum up the grievances that fans have expressed with the W Korea breast cancer awareness event. As someone who has multiple breast cancer survivors in my immediate family, I cannot express how disappointed I was about the event itself and the behavior of the celebrities attending.

W Korea Event dinner

1. First of all, the event felt more like a party or networking event, rather than a charity event. Celebrities were seen partying and drinking, and displaying inappropriate behavior for an event that should have been taken seriously. Additionally, W Korea, or in fact, most of the celebrities attending, did not even acknowledge once what the event was actually about. On social media, W Korea did not post anything about breast cancer awareness and instead focused on posting about the celebrities in attendance.

2. W Korea claims that it is one of the biggest charity events for breast cancer in Korea. It looks like that from the outside, considering how many celebrities attended, but in reality, they’ve only raised 700k over the past 20 years. That doesn’t even make sense. What is the point of having a charity event if they aren’t actually putting in any effort to raise money, or having an education purpose (actually raising awareness)?

3. Going back to how nobody attending (except for a select few) even acknowledged the original purpose of the event, nobody (except Byun Woo-seok) was wearing any pink. They may not have been their faults, but instead their stylists or sponsors picking their clothes. Still, they could have at least worn a small ribbon or some pink accessories.

4. Jay Park’s performance was completely inappropriate. With sexual lyrics that objectify a woman’s body, and his use of suggestive gestures during the performance, this was completely unacceptable.

5. Just to comment on some good, ILLIT’s (especially Wonhee’s) acknowledgment of breast cancer awareness was heartwarming to see. They were the youngest at the event, and still had more maturity than most of the adults there. Second, while this can be up to interpretation of whether disapproval for them is why they left early, some celebrities, including Bang Chan, Seungmin, and Park Eun-bin, all left the event early.
